About Us

How We Got Started
The Northwest China Council was established in 1980 with a grant from the Asia Society. Jane Larson was the founding Executive Director. The NWCC was one of twelve regional Councils established to help educate the American public about Chinese history, culture, politics, and US-China relations; after nearly 50 years of isolation.
Our Mission
Our mission is to promote a greater understanding of Chinese history, culture, business, and contemporary affairs in the Pacific Northwest.
And to build a bridge between the peoples of Oregon and China.
Our Programs
The China Council’s mission is accomplished through three primary program areas.

China Business Network
Meet and network with people doing business in China. Luncheon and after work events are featured.

Cultural & History Events
Listen to speakers on cultural and contemporary China. Contemporary films and documentaries are promoted. A book club meets monthly.

Chinese Language Classes
Continuing classes are taught by Willow Zheng, a native Mandarin Chinese speaker with more than 19 years experience teaching Mandarin as a second language.
